The Punj Pyaaray directed the Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee, on Friday, to remove all five takhat jathedaars from their positions, including Akal Takhat Jathedar Gurbachan Singh, for ignoring their summons, on Oct. 21, to explain why they pardoned cult leader and accused crimal, Gurmeet Ram Rahim of Dera Sacha Sauda, for his 2007 blasphemous act of immitating Guru Gobind Singh, according to catchnews.com.

SGPC chief, Avtar Makkar, suspended the Punj Pyaaray, on Wednesday, along with two committee secretaries and four other employees for summoning the jathedars. The suspension marks the first time in Sikh history that the Punj Pyaaray, an institution created by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699, was dismissed.

Any reputable Sikh can be included in the Punj. The authority of the Punj Pyaaray called by the Panth surpasses that of any jathedar and the SGPC, which is a gurdwara management organization.
