India's Union Cabinet, the highest decision-making body headed by the prime minister, yesterday cleared an amendment to the Sikh Gurdwara Act 1925 to exclude sehajdharis, persons without Kaes, from voting in elections of the Shiromani Gurdawara Parbhandak Committee, according to Indian news media reports.

The 91-year-old legislation passed by the British Indian government is essentially the constitution of all gurdwaras governed by the SGPC, including Harmandar Sahib.
