Maryland doctor sentenced to nine years for healthcare fraud

Paramjit Ajrawat, a pain-management doctor from Potomac, Maryland, was sentenced this week to nine years in prison for his involvement in a $3.1 million healthcare fraud that involved the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs, from January 2011 to May 2014.

In September 2015, a federal jury convicted Ajrawat, 60, and his wife, Sukhveen, 57, but she died in February, according to washingtonpost.com. The sentence also includes $3.1 million in restitution.
